Review:
We just got back from a splendid Desert Rose Band show at the Birchmere in Alexandria Virginia.  All of the original members were in top-notch form.  Chris was much more comfortable with his back from the last time we saw them in May in California.  Last night’s show at the Birchmere was canceled due to a power outage from storms in the area.  But the boys made up for it this evening.  Lots of positive energy.  It was clear that they were having great fun.  The vocals were impeccable and the trade off between Jorgensen and Jay Dee was incredible

Review:

The DRB Birchmere show last night was absolutely outstanding. The sheer level of talent in that one band is kind of staggering.

There are so many different aspects of the performance that just blow your mind. John Jorgenson's prodigious guitar work is an obvious example, but then you start noticing what an amazingly tight and agile rhythm section Bill Bryson and Steve Duncan are; how expertly Jorgenson, Duncan, Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen have arranged the vocals to maximum effect on each song; how all the intros, endings, and solos are perfectly timed; how great the songs are. Mostly you notice how much fun those guys are having on stage, and what great entertainers they all are.

Chris Hillman joked before the encore that after playing for two hours they were ready to collapse. But the vitality and energy these guys displayed ‹forget that they're all in their 50s and 60s ‹ was utterly amazing. The last show I can recall that delivered this level of high-intensity musicianship was Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives. But the Desert Rose Band has
somewhat better vocals. ;-)

A final aside: Chris said that there were no plans to reform or make a new record, but that they intended to get together in the future and continue to play a few shows from time to time. No schedule or major "tours".

Trust me, you do NOT want to miss the DRB if they're playing in your town.
They're simply fantastic.
